Crochet Wine Gift Bag Pattern
Key:
- sl st = slip stitch
- sc = single crochet
- hdc = half double crochet
- dc = double crochet
- dtc = double treble crochet
- puff stitch = yarn over, insert hook into space/stitch, pull up a loop to double crochet height, repeat 3 more times in same stitch (4 times total), yarn over and pull through all 9 stitches on hook
Materials:
- Approx 150 yards of medium 4 weight yarn (Shown is Yarn Bee Secret Soft in Biscuit. This is a thinner weight 4 yarn.)
- G-Hook / 4.0 mm Hook (or hook to obtain gauge)
- Gauge: 7 stitches = 2 inches, 4 rows = 2 inches
- *Ribbons are an option for the drawstring instead of a crochet one

Foundation: chain 4, join by slip stitch in first chian (magic circle is also fine per your preference)
Row 1 : chain 2 (not a stitch), 15 dc into center of ring, sl st in top of dc
Row 2: chain 2, turn, 2 dc in first stitch, repeat to end of round (30 dc total), sl st in top of dc
Row 3: chain 2, turn, 2 dc in first stitch, 1 dc in next stitch, 2 dc in next stitch, 1 dc in next stitch, repeat to end of round (45 dc total), sl st in top of dc
Row 4: chain 1, turn, 2 hdc in first stitch, hdc in next stitch and in each until end of round (46 hdc total), sl st in top of hdc
Row 5: chain 1, turn (this is the last time we turn our work until we begin the strap), sc in first stitch, repeat in each stitch until end of round (46 sc total), sl st in top of sc
Row 6: chain 4 (counts as dc + chain stitch), do not turn, skip next stitch, dc in 3rd stitch, chain 1, skip next stitch, dc in 5th stitch, repeat until you have 2 stitches left, dc in 2nd to last stitch, chain 1, sl st in 3rd chain of the chain 4
Row 7: do not turn, sl st into empty chain space, chain 2, puff stitch into empty chain space, chain 2, puff stitch into next empty chain space, chain 2, puff stitch into next chain space, chain 2, repeat until end of round (23 puff stitches total), after last puff stitch chain 2 and sl st in top of puff stitch (not in chain 2)
Row 8: do not turn, chain 1, sc before 1st puff stitch of previous row, 2 sc between 1st and 2nd puff stitch of previous row, 2 sc between 2nd and 3rd puff stitch of previous row, repeat until you reach last puff stitch, 1 sc next to first sc of the round (you should have 46 sc total), sl st in sc
Row 9: chain 4 (counts as dc + chain stitch), do not turn, skip next stitch, dc in 3rd stitch of the round, chain 1, skip next stitch, dc in 5th stitch of the round, repeat until you have 2 stitches left, dc in 2nd to last stitch, chain 1, sl st in 3rd chain of the chain 4
Row 10: chain 1, do not turn, 2 sc into first empty chain space, 2 sc into next empty chain space, repeat until end of round (you should have 46 sc total), sl st in sc
Rows 11-25: Repeat rows 6-10 three more times (you could repeat these rows only two more times for a shorter bottle as this could be used for some liquor bottles that are not as tall)
Row 26: chain 4 (counts as dc + chain stitch), do not turn, skip next stitch, dc in 3rd stitch, chain 1, skip next stitch, dc in 5th stitch, repeat until you have 2 stitches left, dc in 2nd to last stitch, chain 1, sl st in 3rd chain of the chain 4
Row 27: do not turn, sl st into first empty chain space, chain 3, 9 dtc into same empty chain space, chain 3, sl st into same empty chain space, sl st into next chain space, chain 3, 9 dtc into same chain space, chain 3, sl st into same chain space, repeat until end of round, sl st in same empty chain space as last 9 dtc + chain 3, do not cut yarn
Strap
Row 28: continuing with the same working yarn, chain 80, sl st halfway across the top rim of bag
*you have 23 ruffles at the top, sl st into the 12th ruffle away at the base of the ruffle between the 3rd dtc and 4th dtc, at the base under the ruffle (not around the dtc stitches)
Row 29: chain 1, turn, sc in first stitch of strap, sc in next stitch, repeat until end of row (80 sc total), sl st next to beginning of strap at the base beside the initial ruffle
Row 30: chain 1, turn, sc in first stitch, sc in next stitch, repeat until end of row (80 sc total), sl one stitch over from the previous sl st between the 4th and 5th dtc at the base under the ruffle
Row 31: chain 1, turn, sc in first stitch, sc in next stitch, repeat until end of row (80 sc total), sl one stitch over from the previous sl st which is next to (but not through the next ruffle) at the base under the ruffle
Row 32: strap will naturally be bending inwards in one direction, fold strap in half along that natural bending, chain 1, insert hook into first stitch of both sides of the strap (to close the strap), place 1 sc in both stitches (together in the same sc), place hook in the 2nd stitch of both sides of the strap and sc together, repeat for the remainder of strap (80 sc total), sl st next to previous sl st but between the 5th and 6th dtc, chain 1 and cut and tie off, weave in tail
Drawstring
Make a chain of 86, cut and tie off making sure both tails are even, in the row below the dtc ruffle row find the 5th empty chain space in either direction from the strap to weave drawstring in and out of each empty chain space, you will have one empty chain space left which is the space for the tie. You can also use a ribbon for the drawstring.
