Crochet Rosette Thong Bikini Set | Part 2: Crochet Easy Rosette Bikini Top (A-DD Cup)

Welcome to is part two of the Crochet Rosette Thong Bikini Set, the bikini top. This design for this crochet top was inspired by the Rosette Thong Bikini Bottom. I designed and crocheted the thong first and it turned out so well that I wanted to crochet a matching top. You can find the crochet flower and the crochet thong bikini bottom tutorial for this set here. I wanted a to make a very minimal design for the top because the bikini bottom was very racy and already an attention grabber. But I also wanted to keep the design feminine just like the bottom. So I did choose to keep the design simple and went for the basic crochet triangle bikini top shape to start. I thought the flower would be enough flair to help the basic design not be so extremely basic and give it the feeling I was going for. But the flower was not so much as to make the top look over designed. I think it is a pretty balanced design when paired with the extreme crocheted microkini thong! I think in red or soft pink, this makes for a great Valentine’s Day piece or gift. Those colors also give it a rosy and dreamy feeling but still HOT lol.. But you can use any color you would like to make this your own style!

I used Yarn Bee Secret Soft in the color Red for this set. This is a very lovely medium weight 4 yarn from Hobby Lobby. It is 100% acrylic but it also has a nice luster to it. The sheen of the yarn makes for a really high end look for crochet projects. This yarn also works up very neatly for an acrylic. The yarn is on the thinner side of the worsted weight yarns and works very well with E, F, and G hooks in my opinion. The pink crochet thong shown was made with I Love This Yarn in the color Rosy Cheeks! I love this color as well. It’s so dreamy. This yarn is also 100% acrylic and this is also a medium weight 4 yarn but a little bit thicker than the Yarn Bee Secret Soft. I think they both worked out well for this design.
I used an F-Hook / 3.75 mm hook for this project. When I first began crocheting swimwear, I often used a G-Hook and an H-Hook. Now, I’m kind of liking to use D, E, F and sometimes G. The H-Hook has become a little bit too big for my liking as far as the holes in the crochet swimsuits. But of course there are no rules in the crochet world, so maybe one day I will use the H-Hook again for swimwear if it fits the project…you never know.
This project is good for an experienced crochet beginner. The stitches used in this pattern are chain stitches, slip stitches, single crochet and half double crochet. If you choose to make the same flower that I made in part 1 of this set, there are also double treble crochets used and a bit of very basic Tunisian crochet. However, you can use any flower as a substitute for the rose shown here. All you have to do is follow the same steps for the bikini top and crochet the different flower to the top, by crocheting the backside to the tie, just like it is shown with this rose.

I have been diving into designing crochet bikinis that can accommodate plus. I think there is a big lack of this not only in the crochet world but in general. I was asked by a very nice fellow crocheter on Instagram to begin adding plus size options in my tutorials and I am forever grateful to her because at first, I was just crocheting Small, Medium and Large. Trying to do more sizes was a challenge and I am still a bit inexperienced with plus, but it has gotten better for me as I keep trying to include the sizes. So over time I have been tweaking my own sizing chart until I can get it just right. But for this triangle bikini top, which is pretty simple, I do believe I nailed the DD. I’m looking forward to starting to include DDD cups in my patterns very soon! But for now we show A-DD in the video and pattern.
We begin with the base of the cups with a foundation chain that is long enough for the desired cup size. The cups are made with only half double crochets that decrease throughout the rows. Once I reached the top of the cup, I added a double string tie on the top of the cups, made with only chain stitches. I started by making the chain first and then crocheting the middle of the chain to the top of the bikini top and then the second strap of the cups come out again with the same working yarn. I am a big fan of finding ways to not have the weave in yarn! The outer most tie on one side is where the flower was crocheted to the bikini top. Finally, I just made chain long enough to go around the torso, and weaved that chain in and out along the bottom of the cups . You can tie the straps multiple ways if you like. I just crossed the inside straps in the middle, but they can both go on the outside without crossing as well. Super simple and easy! Like I said this is a very simple crochet triangle bikini design, and it is a great project for beginners if they know the basic stitches very well.
Happy Crocheting!
