Crochet Thong for Beginners Video Tutorial
This is my third crochet thong design and is very popular. It is a crochet thong for beginners. I had already made a thong with double crochets and half double crochets, but I created this thong using only single crochet and chain stitches to make it more beginner friendly. This tutorial features instructions for small, medium and large. The written pattern is available in sizes XS-3X. You can find the written pattern here. It can be easily altered for additional sizes. If you measure your desired crotch length, and can follow the same steps meeting your halfway point and finishing the front half second. Feel free to ask questions if you need help!
Materials
You will need a medium weight 4 yarn. In this video, I used Lily Sugar n Cream Cotton yarn in Ecru.
You will also need a G Hook / 4 mm Hook and scissors.
Let’s Crochet This Thong!!
This project is crocheted form the back of the bikini to the front. We begin with a few rows of single crochets, and then we begin alternating a decreasing row with a row without decreases. We continue this repeat until we have just 2 single crochets in the row. And now we are into the skinny part of the thong and crochet rows of only 2 single crochet according to your size. If you have a desired crotch length measured from front to back, this portion should come to 1 inch shy of half of that desired length.

Now, we are going to begin increasing as we move towards the front of the bikini. The increases are not every row but vary based on your size as shown in the video. Towards the top of the front will be increased more rapidly. If you had a desired crotch length you can go ahead and measure before you fasten off.
It is a good idea to start to find out how long you like your crochet bikini bottom length for each size if you plan on either designing or selling your own bikinis. You may like my design but you might want it to fit differently than I show. Maybe you might want this bikini to have a higher or lower rise than my sizes. So begin to play with your own sizing so that you are happy with the outcome and also have refernce for future swimwear projects you crochet. Once the bikini bottom is long enough in the front, you can fasten off.
Lastly, we will add very simple ties to the corners by making our chain and then slip stitching to each corner and finally we will chain out the same amount as the first side to make a double string. And now we are finished! This project is truly a crochet thong for beginners!
